Terms of custody
The agreement between you and us, in the order it matters.
1. What we undertake
We hold the property you deposit in a numbered box in the strongroom named on your agreement, and we release it only to you, a registered co-holder, or a person you have authorised in writing.
2. What we do not do
We do not lend against, pledge, trade, or take any security interest in property held. We do not open an assigned box except with your key, or under a court order.
3. Declared value and reserve
You declare the value of each item. We hold a reserve against it at the published rate for its class. Undeclared holdings carry no reserve and no cover.
4. Access
Attended access requires identification and dual-key authorisation. Remote access to the register requires your access number, PIN and a one-time code, and is read-only.
5. Fees
Fees are published and apply equally to all holders. Changes take effect ninety days after notice.
6. Non-payment
Access continues for ninety days after a missed payment. After twelve months we may apply to the court to open the box and realise holdings against the debt.
7. Liability
Our liability for loss or damage is limited to the insured limit for your box size, or the declared value of the affected item, whichever is lower.
8. Death of a holder
On production of a grant of probate we will release holdings to the personal representative, having first inventoried the box in the presence of an independent witness.
